At the retail store level, where most jewelry sales take place, a special person is waiting for you to assist in your quest to find that desired piece. The piece that will elevate your outfit, the one that will adorn your beautiful face, the one that will complete your private collection or the perfect gift. This special person is a Sales Consultant. Sales consultants become part of our life's milestones if we allow us to establish a business relationship with them.
Victoria Torres is a jewelry sales consultant and shares three gems from her personal experience in jewelry selling.
1. How did you start your career in the jewelry industry?
First of all, it is a pleasure to share my personal insights with you and your audience.
It made sense at the time for me to transition between luxury categories. I was married to the president of a watch company and my background was in designing clothing. I knew I would be good because I already had a clientele that enjoyed luxury. I had the knowledge, personality, and potential clients. It has proved to have been the best move.
2. What is a major push back or challenge to closing a sale?
In my experience, the major challenge of selling jewelry is in the money department. On one hand, customers want more than what they can afford, and on the other, they look to buy pieces that will become an investment, but in reality, the value of the piece decreases when trying to resell. When customers come in with those intentions, it becomes really hard to invite them into the experience of buying a luxury item that resonates with them and shows their personality. One must allow its beauty to speak. I need to be able to journey with customers through the process.
3. What do you enjoy the most in jewelry selling?
I think the most enjoyable part of my job is sharing those special moments in people’s lives and helping them to represent their feelings in beautiful pieces that will last a lifetime. There is nothing more fulfilling than to receive a card from a client that was so grateful for my service and that their piece was appreciated. It is fulfilling.
